Notes/Takeaways from Jaylyn Jones’s “Inside Tech Recruiting” Workshop

1. DON'T cold email companies if a job doesn't exist — instead FOLLOW UP after an application you've submitted

2. Prioritize applying THROUGH company sites (careers sites) 

3. Think of networking as a COMPLEMENT to your efforts 

4. You're not networking for the job search you're in; your networking for your next job search 

5. Avoid 1-on-1 referral chasing; instead build genuine connections over time 

6. Don't focus on soft skills and work culture type stuff on resume — worry about that more for your behavioral interview

7. You don't need to meet 100% of the requirements to apply - it's not quite 50% but it's not 100% it's somewhere in between - don't self disqualify but be intentional - meet the minimum requirements, focus on core technical skills & transferable skills — aim for 70%+ qualifications match 

8. Don't let "100 people already applied" disqualified because on avg 58 of those people don't meet the qualifications - don't worry about what other people are doing
